The effect of ileostomy closure timing on low anterior resection syndrome in patient who underwent low anterior resection for rectal cancer

This is a multi-center retrospective study of patients underwent low anterior resection for rectal cancer. Ileostomy had been done to protect lying Colo-rectal anastomosis, closure ileostomy delayed in some due patient own will, surgical complications (anastomotic leak) or coarse chemotherapy. aimed find the effect temporary on post-operative bowel defunction which called Low syndrome (LARS), and include; urgency, difficulty emptying bowel, incontinence feces flatus. A total 50 included this study, age ranges from 19 80 years old with mean 51.96 years. The number males was (33, %66). Majority were overweight (21, 42%). distance tumors anal verge less than 10 cm (31,62%). duration fecal diversion 7.17 months. Loop closed before six months (27,54%). developed no LARS 6.87 shorter those (7.31). Lower BMI are more prone develop LARS, while Obese susceptible major LARS. Nineteen cases among patient’s months, 15 ileostomies after months.
